energy market is on the move. Separating power supply operation from
distribution has lead to a considerable intensification of competition. New
ownership and operator schemes have emerged which give rise to great
opportunities and challenges for the companies involved. Technische Werke Friedrichshafen GmbH (TWF) and
Regionalwerk Bodensee GmbH & Co. KG (RWB) both decided to take over parts of the
EnBW supply network within the framework of this local relocation. In close
cooperation with RWB, TWF managed to record and digitalize considerable amounts
of relevant data on the company materials and supplies into the geo-information
system (GIS) within just a few weeks. Since many of the operating items, for
example overhead power lines and network stations are neither directly
connected with a street nor have a house number, there is a definite need here
for a high performance navigation solution which can lead the team at any time
quickly and efficiently to their point of destination through the new supply
region.
The
LOGIBALL Solution Part
of recording the data in GIS involved creating a location point for each
operating item and storing the relevant coordinates there. This is where the
LOGIBALL Business Navigator comes in as it uses the evaluated coordinates from
the GIS to show the way to the destination. The LOGIBALL Business Navigator is
equipped with a precise navigation map which has been especially developed to
meet the high demands placed by the utility companies. Unlike the usual
navigation maps, the LOGIBALL navigation maps contain a detailed route network
which extends beyond the road network information normally available on the
market. And the solution TWF uses provides further potential for extending the
partnership; indeed it is planned to expand the data recorded in the GIS to
manage the necessary maintenance cycles. With the coordinates exported into the
LOGIBALL Business Navigator, it gives TWF the support it needs to optimize the
planning of routes.
Success As one
of the few independent players in the market, LOGIBALL is in a position to
process data from various providers and of various format into one map. This
has given rise to a database which is unique in the market and which offers
such a degree of detail to fulfil the high demands of the energy supply sector.
