A statistical view on navigation data

29.09.2011

LOGIBALL presents a new application for iPhone and iPad visualizing the development of navigation data over time or in comparison to non-commercial data providers. The service is particularly interesting for data and location based service providers, manufacturers of navigation systems and the automotive industry.

How has the street network been developed from 2008 to 2011 within Europe? Which are the most dynamic locations in the world? In which region does OpenStreetMap offer navigation data as detailed as commercial providers usually do, so that in fact the data can be integrated into complex business solutions? Each question is quite interesting for experts dealing with navigation data every day.

LOGIBALL already presented a Quality Grid based on OpenStreetMap data in comparison to commercial data last year – with exciting results. Now LOGIBALL’s Map Engineering team developed an application for iPhone and iPad offering a statistical view on navigation data by visualizing the changes of a street network over time. Furthermore it shows a detailed analysis of the OpenStreetMap of one country in comparison to a traditional map of a market leading data supplier. The analysis is based on grids. Considered countries are divided into squares to make sure that the results are easy to understand and very comfortable to use. The application is set up on individual channels meeting customized business demands. If required, each channel can be put into different relations to each other.

The creation of digital maps and its quality assurance have been among LOGIBALL’s core competencies for many years. LOGIBALL’s know-how in the field of map engineering includes creating new regional navigation maps, enhancing the navigation data base but also providing clients with a wide range of quality checks. The Global Navigation Data Suite, an approved software developed by LOGIBALL, supports these services as it allows the company to integrate and handle different navigation data formats.
